Rafe Spall to star in Severn Screen's comedy Denmark

WestEnd Films will introduce Cannes buyers to Denmark directed by Adrian Shergold and starring Rafe Spall.

A bitter-sweet comedy, Denmark is the story of one man’s pursuit of a dream no more ridiculous than the times we live in. Spall stars as Herb, a down on his luck Welshman, a man staring down the barrel of a post-Brexit UK. Without a job or access to hot running water, Herb makes a decision to change his life for the better. With nothing to lose, and everything to gain, he travels across Europe with one crazy goal - to get himself arrested and sent to a place where the beds are warm and the water is hot - a Danish prison! But will this gentle soul make it to Denmark? And will he have what it takes to get himself arrested?

The film is produced by David Aukin (Hyde Park On Hudson, Endgame, Churchill’s Secret) and BAFTA Cymru winner Ed Talfan (Hinterland, The Passing and upcoming Netflix film Apostle), and is written by Jeff Murphy.

Denmark is backed by Ffilm Cymru Wales (I Am Not a Witch, Dark Horse). Joe Oppenheimer will executive produce for BBC Films, who also developed the project with FfCW.

WestEnd will begin worldwide sales in Cannes, ahead of scheduled principal photography this summer.
